Hello everyone! Let’s talk again about “Red”, the play Randy is on stage with right now at the George Street Playhouse in NY, and that will be in Ohio from March 16th to April 8th. 2012.

First off, here’s the Playbill with a little summary of the play: "Lit from within and fueled by the passion of their creator, Mark Rothko's Seagrams Murals are powerful paintings of crimson, maroon and black that were intended to hang in a building designed by architectural titans," according to George Street notes. "But when a new assistant enters his studio, Rothko finds himself reconsidering the future of his works as he is confronted by the rise of the next generation."

Next we have an interview that Randy gave to John Bathke. Soon Bathke will also post the video interview with Randy. Here’s a little snippet from it for now: “Harrison said to me about his character Ken, “I loved how much he grows, how much the character transforms in the course of the 90 minute play…And I definitely think as a young artist, although I’m not that young anymore, I feel like I’ve gone through very similar experiences in different relationships that I’ve had with different acting teachers and different directors.”

“Red” is a battle of artistic wills as the younger artist comes into his own, while enduring browbeating and tirades by Rothko. It’s tense, non stop drama as Harrison points out about the two-character play.

“It’s starting to feel like going into a boxing ring…there’s no time for breathing, no time to get off stage.”

Fianlly, here’s a snippet taken from the first review of the play :

“Sharing space with a character as controlling as this Rothko, Randy Harrison’s Ken often finds himself scrambling for a voice of any consequence, a search which RED makes a centerpiece. Mr. Harrison takes Ken from meek and tentative to vocal and self-assured in a maturation that we recognize as guided at all times by Rothko. Mr. Harrison thus admirably rises to the challenge of showing us a Ken who is so very certain of coming into his own, while never actually reaching intellectual independence. The pace of the play (two years covered in a brisk ninety minutes) forces an unfortunate abruptness to Ken’s development, but Mr. Harrison does well to underscore the various stages of Ken’s uncertainty, frustration, and budding confidence.”

Thank you to Gloria, Katia and Lory!

We have an interview with Randy, Bob Ari and the director Anders Cato about the play "Red" from the website Centraljersey.com.
Here you can read what Randy and Bob Ari said:

Starring opposite Ari is Randy Harrison from Showtime’s “Queer as Folk” in the role of Ken. This is Harrison’s first two-person play and he was thrilled to do it upon reading the script for the first time.

”This play encompasses so many things. It’s about an artist’s life, the process of creation, the really strong conflict between generations of art battling it out, a mentor/student relationship, a father/son relationship; it has it all,” Harrison says. “It’s a thrilling role to do. My character is super excited and you build up to these really cathartic moments that my character has as the show progresses.”While Ken begins the play in awe of Rothko and his art, he slowly grows to distrust the artist, who has accepted $30,000 for the job but preaches about sticking to one’s principles and grand ideals."

We heard about a website promoting and selling tickets for an Italian convention about QaF. We would like to inform you all that we are NOT involved in any way, that this event is NOT approved by the actors and that NONE of the actors are planning to attend a convention that should take place in Italy in September of this year. As you will read below, everything we're saying here has been confirmed by Scott Lowell on his Facebook page!!

Scott Lowell himself gave us the permission to quote his post:

"So it has come to my attention that a website for yet ANOTHER QAF Convention has popped up claiming that some or all of the cast will be appearing in Italy in September of this year. While we LOVE our Italian fans and are very flattered that fans would want a second European Convention we have made no such agreement with the organizers of this event and, in fact, the only convention the cast of QAF will be appearing at in 2012 will be in Cologne, Germany this June. But don't worry Italy (or any other country that would like to host a QAF event) 2013 is WIDE open and we'd love to come see you!! :0)"

..then Scott added:

"Well, ******* they may be having a convention in September but none of us will be there. That's reality."

Thanks to Scott for his kindness!

Randy will be Ken as part of the cast of "Red", a play by the Tony-winning John Logan!

Directed by Anders Cato, the production will officially open Gen. 31st for a limited engagement through Feb. 26th at the George Street Playhouse, in New Brunswick, NJ.

Synopsis:

"There is only one thing I fear in life, my friend... One day the black will swallow the red."

Mark Rothko (Bob Ari) is in his New York studio in 1958-9, painting a group of murals for the expensive and exclusive Four Seasons restaurant. He gives orders to his assistant, Ken (Randy Harrison), as Mark mixes the paints, makes the frames, and paints the canvases. Ken, however, brashly questions Rothko's theories of art and his acceding to work on such a commercial project.

More information and tickets HERE and HERE.
